Ever notice how the entire Star Wars saga is...
Right after R2D2 gets the data from Princess Leia, he and C3PO get into an escape pod and fall to the nearby planet, Tatooine. As they’re falling, a trooper on the Star Destroyer spots the escape pod and moves to destroy it.  However, a commander orders him not to fire, “there’s no lifeforms, must have short-circuited,” he remarks. So they let it plummet to the planet....

Nukezilla: Nukezilla 101 →
nukezilla: [Somebody who reblogs this post will be sent cookies* Update: there’s four packets to be won!] Maybe RSS feeds are too mainstream for Tumblr to worry about? Either way, the RSS feed for the Nukezilla Tumblr is still not working quite right. One suggestion is that we’re not popular enough…

Cameron already gave Coulson a "second chance"...
July 2009, David Cameron said: Of course I knew about that resignation before offering him the job. But I believe in giving people a second chance. As director of communications for the Conservatives he does an excellent job in a proper, upright way at all times. Today, January 17th: David Cameron said today he has given Andy Coulson, his director of communications, a “second...

Wardrox's Collection of Thoughts: A short story:... →
wardrox: [This morning, as part of my 750 Words, I decided to try to write, in one quick burst, a short story. Low on inspiration I drew from what’s directly outside my window and tried to construct something around it. This short story is only slightly edited from its original, which took a little… I wish I was brave enough to publish my fiction on the web. Very cool.

That's Curious: My new thing to put words in
So I spent last night setting up http://thatscurious.tumblr.com, my new place to write about politics, science, the internet and ‘stuff’. I read most of the stuff anyway and usually just chuck it on Twitter so this’ll just be a bit some substantive. I’ll probably still use this Tumblr to post videos of cats doing hilarious things, but I want a new place to focus and...

Poor Daily Mail writer can no longer afford to...
my partner and I started a new business four years ago, and we borrowed and borrowed and bought a country house alongside the two we owned between us in London. We practically rebuilt it while I fussed over the kitchen, oohing and aahing over Farrow & Ball paint and butler sinks. We moved to the Cotswolds and I even bought another cottage as an ‘investment’. When the recession hit, we...

Housing benefit cap to be postponed until January...
There had been reports, hotly denied, that central London councils were going to have to block book bed and breakfast accommodation due to the surge in homelessness. - It was also clear that the government did not want a swathe of stories of pensioners being forced to leave their homes unable to pay rent due to cuts in housing benefit in the run up to the May local elections. This housing...

Mr. Peanut Comes Out - Genius.
After that, I went on a wild sex binge, with everyone from Cap’n Crunch to Snap, Crackle, and Pop, and I’ll just say this: none of those guys gets soggy in milk. I remember waking up in a cave in the jungle, in the paws of Tony the Tiger, who roared, “You were grrrrreat! ” But it all came crashing down when I found myself in a three-way, squeezed between Ronald McDonald and Snuggle, the...

"I thought: 'That's the end of me and the baby'"
Moments after the horse charge, the video shows a pregnant woman in considerable distress. The radio station LBC 97.3 identified the woman, named Anastasia, who said she was pushed by the horse into a corner. “I thought: ‘That’s the end of me and the baby’, that’s the idea that went through my head,” she said. The Guardian.

"In defence of history"
History is also necessary because it helps to explain current events. How did western culture and western capitalism come to dominate the world? How do cultures rise and how do they fall? We need to know – because otherwise we will not understand the consequences of the rise of China, India and Brazil, the weakening of the United States, the political and economic decline of Europe. History will...

The General Theory of 'House'
Firstly, let me say I love House, but there’s a clear formula that almost every episode follows: 1. Patient comes in complaining of minor symptoms. 2. It gets worse, usually because House tries some crazy treatment. 3. Nobody knows what’s going on. They speculate, trying more and more things which eventually make things worse. 4. House, who’s general douchebagness gets him...

Jazz started to get a reputation as being immoral and many members of the older generations saw it as threatening the old values in culture and promoting the new decadent values of the Roaring 20s. Professor Henry Van Dyck of Princeton University wrote “…it is not music at all. It’s merely an irritation of the nerves of hearing, a sensual teasing of the strings of physical passion.” ...

Hell, Nukezilla are currently being blacklisted by Microsoft after having the audacity to ask for an update on something they publicly promised and have yet delivered on. But because it’s not Big Important Dramatic News, and because Nukezilla doesn’t attract millions of hits from Google each month, we’re just shut out and nobody gives a damn. This is a quote from a history text book by M. A. Jones called “American Immigration”, published in 1960. “Much more, however, has been involved in the usually short-lived but highly concentrated outbursts of mass xenophobia which have erupted in American from time to time. These have been the product of a loss of national confidence owing to internal stress of one kind or...

Microsoft: Kinect will sell better than iPads....
I don’t understand Microsoft’s comparison here. Why the iPad? This seems like a story totally there to get clicks: “I’ll mention Apple, that’ll get everyone talking about us!” He doesn’t even justify it by saying “this is why the comparison is valid”. Because they both play games? They both require human interaction? They’re made up of...
